Lisa Marie Presley Preps for Tour

By ETONLINE STAFF August 27, 2013
Lisa Marie Presley's eldest daughter, Riley Keough, was the talk of the town after Australian fashion brand Bonds released ads of the 24 year old in lingerie earlier this month, but it seems as if Riley's mom was the last to find out.

"I actually didn't even know about that," said Lisa Marie, who found out about the ads via a Google alert. "She didn't even give me a heads up."
Riley has also been snapped hanging out with Robert Pattinson, igniting rumors that the two might be an item. Lisa Marie remained tight-lipped on the subject, saying that she couldn't confirm who her daughter was dating at the moment.

Today, Lisa Marie, 45, and charity partner World Vision kick off the third leg of her Storm & Grace tour from Oregon.
The singer-songwriter has her family to keep her company on the road as husband Michael Lockwood is on guitar and four-year-old twins Harper and Finley are also along for the ride.
When asked how the twins handle being on tour, Lisa Marie said, "They're going to want me out of the way basically. They're going to want to take the microphone and take over."

Check out the video above to see Lisa Marie prep with her band.

Lisa Marie Presley performs an awkward, uneven show at the Triple Door

Lisa Marie Presley may have inherited her dad’s good looks, but his talent or showmanship? Not so much.

In her first Seattle concert – not counting a Puyallup Fair show in 2003 after releasing her debut album – Elvis Presley’s daughter performed an awkward and uneven show Wednesday night at the Triple Door.

Presley started a half hour late, leaving a long line of fans waiting on the sidewalk while she finished her sound check. But fans were forgiving when she finally took the stage with her five-piece band shortly after 9 p.m.

And her heart was in the right place: She plugged World Vision, her charity of choice, with a plea to concertgoers to pledge $35 a month to needy kids in Third World countries, directing them to a sign-up table near the entrance.

The set was heavily stocked with songs from her current album, “Storm & Grace,” produced by T-Bone Burnett. The famous producer described the songs as “honest, raw, unaffected and soulful.” Indeed they were, but there was something missing in the execution.

Lots of reverb helped cover the weakness of her vocals, and many tunes simply plodded along without much conviction. But her band supplied enough crunch to carry the more rocking songs, such as “Soften the Blows” and an encore of Tom Petty’s “I Need to Know.”

“Weary” was mournful and downcast and really quite beautiful. “Idiot” (which she described as “the meanest song I’ve ever written”) took a swing at a former man in her life. After Danny Keough, Michael Jackson and Nicolas Cage, Presley is now on her fourth marriage — to Michael Lockwood, chief guitarist for her current tour (Lockwood sported a top hat with a plume of feathers so large it looked as though it would fly away with the hat).

Presley, dressed in a blue gown, black leather belt and black boots, complained that the microphone was so heavy that it was difficult to hold, and she frequently shook her wrists to relieve the discomfort.

While credentialed photographers darted around the room taking photos, hawk-eyed security people kept a close watch on cell phone cameras for unauthorized photos or videos, pouncing on anyone pointing a device toward the stage.

It seemed like overkill for an artist still touring clubs, even if she is the daughter of a rock ‘n’ roll colossus.

Opening was The Black Lillies, a talented country band from Knoxville, Tenn.

I found some nasty fans with ML yet it looks like a very good man, even if I prefer married to the other Michael....  but I like to think that it is only with his father and we saw that Michael that spark in his eyes ....

People lyric

It seems like it took you forever
Feels like we waited for years
I’ve grown weary of people
Too much disappointment there

You got here in the nick of time
Thank god you’re here
You go here in the nick of time
Thank god you did

People they will make or break you
I was broken
How do I keep you protected?
So, you don’t end up just like that

You got here in the nick of time
Thank god you’re here
You got here in the nick of time
Thank god you did

People say they’re your friend
They’ll say anything
But I’ve known too many people
and too much heartbreak came from there

You got here in the nick of time
Thank god you’re here
You got here in the nick of time
Thank god you did
You got here in the nick of time
Thank god you’re here
You got here in the nick of time
Thank god you did

You tell me that I am not objective, but sometimes I like to think that it stays with ML just to thank .... for his help, his tolerance and understanding

lol! lol!

Thanks Salma for sharing.

I've heard ML is a good man, of course my favorite is MJ. I feel they both were manipulated by all that people's evilness around them.

What you think about the lyrics? Who these are about?

I'm 1000000000000% agree with you! I say and repeat that gleam in his eyes disappeared since splitting with Mike! she had lost when his father died but had found when she fell in love with this man!

you can call me crazy I'm an Elvis fan so I have a lot of family pictures of Lisa Presley and child and that spark in her eyes she had with her dad and loved his ex husband! Ok it was mean to Michael, Ok his mother is a bit*** but this woman same a loving husband and beautiful children will always this sadness in your eyes now that the two men in her life are gone! To add to that his best friend J. Ramone is also no longer of this world ...

I assure you I have a life outside of my obsession for LMP / MJ ... I'm in a relationship for 13 years and I have a daughter and a job LOL
But I'm tired of hearing crap about Lisa and Mike. If Michael was in love with this girl and we know that it was quite difficult to daughter must be exceptional for it to be fall in love! So a little respect for the woman he loved! Debbie even though I want him to have put the shit in the couple

NAPA, CA August 30, 2013

With all the hoopla that has surrounded her, it’s easy to forget that Lisa Marie Presley is at heart a simple Southern girl whose earliest musical memories are of obsessively listening to 45′s in her bedroom at Graceland and of her dad catching her singing into a hairbrush in front of a mirror at the age of three.

The Memphis-born Presley reclaims those roots on her new album Storm & Grace — an Americana-inspired showcase for her songwriting talent and smoldering alto voice. Produced with elegant restraint by 12-time Grammy Award-winner T Bone Burnett, Storm & Grace is a marked departure from Presley’s previous albums, 2003′s gold-certified To Whom It May Concern and 2005′s Now What, which both debuted in the Top 10 on Billboard‘s Top 200 chart, “I love the songs, but I think I was hiding behind a lot of sonic layers because it was scary to go out there,” Presley says. “It’s easier to bury yourself in the noise so you don’t stand out. This album is a lot more stripped-down and naked, both musically and lyrically.”

The album’s rootsy golden tone is set immediately with the opening track “Over Me,” with its echoey guitar line, burping bassline, shuffling backbeat, and lyrics that lament a lover who’s replaced her, while the ominous, swampy lead single “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet” and the pedal-steel and mandolin-driven title track sound like they could have been recorded during an impromptu back-porch jam session.

Presley’s previous albums did, however, enable her to work through the rebelliousness she was feeling when she launched her career as a singer-songwriter in 2003. “I was angry at all that I was potentially up against — all the expectations — and I was puffing myself up as a protective mechanism,” she says. “At the same time, I was being pushed by the team around me to be a pop star, and to do all these crazy things that I really didn’t want to do.”

After completing a well-received tour to support Now What, Presley retreated from the music industry, relocating to the English countryside with her husband and young twin daughters and shedding the people and things she felt had demoralized her. “I got rid of a lot of the toxicity around me, but I also lost a lot of my drive and love for songwriting,” she says. “The creativity was kind of wrung out of me.”

Not wanting to abandon her craft, and after gentle prodding from her new manager Simon Fuller, Presley agreed, in the summer of 2009, to sit down with some new songwriting collaborators, who included three Brits: Sacha Skarbek (who’s written with Adele and Jason Mraz among others), and singer-songwriters Ed Harcourt and Richard Hawley, who is also a member of Pulp. “There was no agenda,” she says. “I wasn’t trying to write a hit or to please any particular audience. I was just enjoying the process of being creative with great people who really love music.” The first song to emerge was a gentle ballad called “Weary,” which Presley wrote with Hawley. “That one turned the tide and sparked the whole sound of the record,” she says. Over an eight-month period, Presley wrote 28 songs including “Storm and Grace” and “How Do You Fly This Plane?” with Hawley; “Un-Break” and “Close To The Edge” with Skarbek; and “Soften The Blows” and “Over Me” with Harcourt.

Taken as a whole, Storm & Grace is a unflinchingly honest piece of work from this songwriter, who, though known for her tough frankness, has managed to create a tender, consoling thread that runs throughout the album. “Weary” may concern a relationship that didn’t work out, but it is suffused with a genuine warmth, as Presley sings: “I will always love you/you can move on, dear.”

For Presley, the album’s conciliatory theme grew out of wanting to have peace in her life after a period of turmoil and letting go of what no longer suited her. “There were a few years there where everything around me had fallen apart,” she says. “All the things that had become my foundation were gone and I had to shed a lot of skin. I found myself really vulnerable afterward and that’s what birthed the album’s vibe. It’s me without any attitude or anger at a time of rediscovery.”

Impressed with Presley’s songs, Fuller sent the demos to producer and musician T Bone Burnett, who is known for his work with such artists as Allison Krauss and Robert Plant, B.B. King, Willie Nelson, Elton John and Leon Russell, and scores of others. “I got a call that T Bone really liked them and wanted to meet with me,” Presley says. “When I saw him, he said, ‘I don’t want to do a big song and dance. I really like the record and I’d love to produce it.’”

“When Lisa Marie’s songs arrived, I was curious,” Burnett says. “I wondered what the daughter of an American revolutionary music artist had to say. What I heard was honest, raw, unaffected, and soulful. I thought her father would be proud of her. The more I listened to the songs, the deeper an artist I found her to be. Listening beyond the media static, Lisa Marie Presley is a Southern American folk music artist of great value.”

“It makes me feel really good to hear him say that because I know he means it,” Presley says. “His enthusiasm and support gave me a lot of confidence. His even doing this project and bringing in his musicians [who include drummer Jay Bellerose, bassist Dennis Crouch, guitarists Jackson Smith and Michael Lockwood, and keyboardists Keefus Green and Patrick Warren] injected me with new life. They were all outstanding.”

Lisa Marie Presley at El Rey Theatre

For a woman whose life has been defined by public scrutiny, Lisa Marie Presley is done trying to live up to expectations that aren't her own. Her first album in seven years, "Storm & Grace," finds Presley singing, "She got no talent of her own, it's just her name," on deluxe-edition track "Sticks and Stones," her voice a painful wail while slide guitars whisk around her like unseen demons. The album may serve as a career reboot, but it also brings her back to her family roots, pairing her dusty, robust vocals with moody country and blues accents made famous by the Sun Studio recording house that captured the voice of her father. El Rey Theatre, 5515 Wilshire Blvd., L.A. 7 p.m. Sun. $25-$125. Theelrey.com.

YOU AIN’T SEEN NOTHIN’ YET: LISA MARIE PRESLEY @ EL REY, 9/1/13

This year has been an educational one, as I have expanded my music horizons beyond my already diverse and unpredictable tastes. So when my original Labor Day plans fell through, I found myself at the El Rey, alone, and unsure why I was there.

I am not familiar with Lisa Marie Presley’s music at all; but I have spent a lot of time this year thinking about legacies, getting out from under successful parents’ shadows, and rock ‘n’ roll royalty. So something drew me to this show…and I’m glad I went.

It’s rare I go out to a show where I know NO ONE there these days, and it was kind of nice to be an anonymous face in a crowd again. I was surrounded by people as foreign as aliens to me; not only did I not know any of them, but I doubt that we would even be in the same grocery store together. It was a varied crowd, but what I most picked up on were the guy next to me with a bouquet of roses, the lady translating every song into sign language to a particular audience in the far corner, the young guy who sang every word, and, of course, the fact that Priscilla and parents were sitting right behind me.

Before Lisa Marie took the stage, a guy came out and made the what’s becoming more frequent speech concerning enjoying the show, and don’t take pictures or record. And everyone seemed to obey- which, despite my love of pictures, I really admire in the concert setting these days. Then the curtain lifted, and a very well-dressed band was soon joined by the petite and charismatic daughter of The King.

I’ve been privy to seeing a lot of people act weird and lose it around rock stars. I’ve also seen this happen around the spawn of rock stars, sometimes manifested in creepy ways. And that was definitely the case tonight, and perhaps, on a miniscule level, I am one of those here. Yeah, I’m a huge Elvis fan, I’ve been to Graceland twice, had that creepy mocked up photo taken with a young Elvis, etc., etc. But I know where to draw the line. I’ve seen Jakob Dylan, Hank 3, Shooter Jennings, Dhani Harrison…all great performers in their own right. And that’s what brought me here: what does Lisa Marie bring to the table? Besides having married some…interesting people.
Her latest album Storm & Grace was produced by T-Bone Burnett, and the backing band definitely represented the Americana roots that were planted for this album. Guitarist, and Lisa Marie’s husband, Michael Lockwood, had the vibe of Tom Petty in the “Don’t Come Around Here No More” video. His top hat and glasses were complemented by beautiful guitar after beautiful guitar.

For the first few songs, I was shocked by how timid Lisa Marie appeared to be, seeming very nervous and fidgety as she sang. It was as if she was holding back. It was quite hot in there, and she kept dabbing her face with a towel, and later, spraying her throat with something. Nonetheless, the crowd danced and sang along to her light, bluesy numbers. She definitely was born with the undefinable ability to draw people in I can imagine her father to have had; people were constantly shouting “I love you!” and “you’re beautiful!”. And when the light caught her right, it was eerie to see her profile and those eyes…it probably had the same effect on me if I were to see Frances Bean Cobain in person. There’s probably a nicer way to say this, but..our dead parents live on within us, for ourselves, and for others.

Over the course of the set she seemed to loosen up, the pivotal moment coming when she, unrehearsed, spotted two kids in the crowd that she recognized from YouTube videos that they were posting on her Facebook page. She invited them up onstage to perform one of her songs. The younger brother played Lockwood’s guitar, and the older sister sang. It was a heartfelt moment, as they were both so surprised and nervous, but they pulled it out and nailed it! A huge reason I’m so into live music is the memories it creates, and I am sure that these kids will talk about that moment for the rest of their lives.

The show flowed much more nicely until the end, and I let myself get lost in the slide guitar I love so much but don’t get out and see enough. At that point, Lisa Marie became more than the daughter of The King looking scared up there shaking a glittery tambourine, but she became a songwriter with a story to tell, a woman scorned. That’s what I was there for.

Two young Lisa Marie's fans did a cover of a of her song ''Just a dream''. Here the video.
