| Music royalty will be in the house at this year’s Country Music Association Awards. The King of Rock ’n’ Roll’s daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, tells Country Weekly that she’ll be attending the Nov. 1 ceremonies. Immediately after the show, Lisa Marie departs for Tunica, Miss.—a mere two hours from Elvis' Tupelo birthplace—to kick off her two-week tour. The singer/songwriter is touring in support of her third album, Storm & Grace, produced by Grammy-winning producer (and TV show Nashville’s music supervisor) T Bone Burnett. Other dates on the trek include a Nov. 5 stop in Nashville and a tour-closing performance at New York City’s famed Carnegie Hall. Lisa Marie says that while she always consciously honors the memory of her superstar father—she released a video duet with Elvis, “I Love You Because,” to CMT today—her concerts are more about her own music. And she says fans have come to expect that. “I did [my] first two records and blasted out of the gate in such a way that was nothing like what [Elvis fans] would want me to do. Not out of disrespect, but just to find my own path. I needed to find my own footing. . . . In doing that, I gained my own fan base,” says Lisa Marie, who made her Grand Ole Opry debut in August. “You’ll always get those [fans] who see that it’s me and they’ll just come to the show. But there is not as many anymore.” Ironically, Lisa Marie says Storm & Grace may be the closest she’s come to her father’s signature sound of country, rock, gospel and blues. “This record has a lot more tonality and is a lot more intimate, so it’s bringing that flavor and that element back into the situation,” she says. “People can hear him in some of what I’m doing. Obviously, I’ll never sing like him, but there are tones and textures that people are really relating to.” [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] | |
