Lisa Marie Presley's death caused by WEIGHT-LOSS surgery complications that obstructed her bowel, autopsy shows, with music heiress also found to have opioids in her system when she died at age 54

It's been revealed that Lisa Marie Presley died aged 54 in January from a small bowel obstruction caused by previous weight-loss surgery - with opioids found in her blood at the time of her death.

The daughter of Elvis Presley was rushed to hospital on January 12 after going into cardiac arrest - with an L.A. County Coroner report revealing the star died from  sequelae (a condition which is the consequence of a previous disease or injury) of small bowel obstruction.

The bowel obstruction was in the form of strangulated small bowel, caused by adhesions that developed after bariatric surgery (stomach stapling) many years prior.

The toxicology results also show Lisa had 'therapeutic' levels of Oxycodone in her blood, with a second opioid Buprenorphine - which is used to treat opioid dependence - also found.

There were also traces of Quetiapine, an antipsychotic drug, reports TMZ.

The coroner states there was no 'drug paraphernalia or narcotics' found at her home and her urine toxicology screen was negative.

The report confirms Lisa had a cosmetic procedure a few months before her death and was prescribed opioids, with the star having a history of 'overmedicating' - forgetting she had taken her medication and then taking them again.

The reports also states the star had a 'history of alcohol and drug abuse.'

Lisa Marie, who was a singer–songwriter with three studio albums between 2003 and 2012, had just attended the 80th Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles with her mother Priscilla two days before her passing.

The mother and daughter duo made a point to be at the awards show in a show of support for the acclaimed Elvis (2022) biopic from Baz Luhrmann that starred Austin Butler as the legendary King Of Rock And Roll, Elvis Presley.

During her walk along the red carpet of the event, Lisa Marie looked frail and fragile, which prompted her to lean on longtime family friend, Jerry Schilling, who's now 81-years-old.

While being interviewed by Billy Bush for Extra, she linked arms with Schilling, telling him, 'I'm gonna grab your arm.'

Both ladies were very open and honest in heaping praise on Luhrmann's biopic, which focused on Elvis's 20-plus year relationship with his manager Col. Tom Parker, and Butler's performance as Elvis.

10 days after her passing, hundred of people attended a public memorial at Graceland in Memphis on January 22, and more than 1.5 million people watched the service via live stream as well.

Lisa Marie welcomed daughter Riley and son Benjamin with ex-husband Danny Keough - who she was married to from 1988 to 1994. Benjamin died by suicide in 2020 at age 27.

She welcomed twin daughters Harper and Finley in 2008 with then-husband Michael Lockwood, but the pair divorced in 2016.

Lisa Marie Presley Had 'Longterm Complication' from Bariatric Surgery, Was 'Feverish for Months': Coroner

According to the medical examiner's report, Presley was facing a number of health issues ahead of her sudden death in January

A newly completed autopsy report obtained by PEOPLE offers insight into the circumstances surrounding 54-year-old singer-songwriter Lisa Marie Presley's death.

The report stated on Thursday that Presley’s death in January was caused by a “sequelae of a small bowel obstruction," which developed after she underwent bariatric surgery several years ago. As noted on the report, the obstruction was in the form of strangulated small bowel caused by adhesions that developed after her weight-loss surgery.

"This is a known long-term complication of this type of surgery," notes Deputy Medical Examiner Dr. Juan Carrillo.

According to the report, the singer and only child of Elvis Presley was found unresponsive at her home in Calabasas by her ex-husband — reportedly Danny Keough — and died hours later after being hospitalized on Jan. 12.

Presley was feeling ill and had complaints of abdominal pain that morning; her ex-husband took her children to school that morning, and when he returned, he found Presley in cardiac arrest, notes the report.

The report also reveals that while in the emergency room, Presley had life-threatening heart rhythms and a temporary pacemaker implanted; she was admitted to the ICU for further management, but a scan revealed that she had already suffered a severe anoxic brain injury; and her condition dramatically declined at 4:48 p.m. when she went into cardiac arrest before she was pronounced dead 20 minutes later.

Carrillo specified in the report that Presley had a "distended abdomen for years." He also noted that she "did not seek medical attention" despite "abdominal pain for the past few months" before entering the hospital. Presley also had severe metabolic acidosis, a buildup of acid in the body due to kidney disease or failure.

Presley — who had a history of issues with blood sugar and blood pressure, along with depression, anxiety and history of stroke (referred to as a cerebral vascular accident in the report) — also complained of feeling feverish, nauseated and vomited for months leading up to her death, according to the report.

The toxicology results concluded that levels of oxycodone remained in Presley's blood at the time of death. Months prior, she had another cosmetic surgery and was prescribed medicine for the pain; she later developed an infection and was admitted to the Los Angeles Robles Hospital, states the report.

Quetiapine metabolite, an antidepressant along with norbuprenorphine and buprenorphine, which treats opioid addiction, was also present in her system but did not contribute to her actual death, the coroner concluded.

"The decedent had a history of overmedicating; she was known to forget she had taken her medications and would take them again," the report reads. "She had a history of alcohol abuse and illicit drug use in the past. She had reportedly been clean from both since 2015. She smoked approximately 1 pack of cigarettes daily."

Just days before her shocking death, Presley attended the Golden Globes alongside her mother, Priscilla.

Lisa Marie Presley’s cause of death came as a shock to many of her friends.
Last week, it was revealed that the only child of Elvis Presley died of a bowel obstruction, according to the Los Angeles County medical examiner.

The obstruction was a result of adhesions caused by weight-loss surgery she underwent several years ago, according to the report.

But Lisa Marie, who was 54 at the time of her death in January, had never been dangerously overweight, a former friend told Page Six, adding: “When did you ever see Lisa look as if she needed bariatric surgery? 

“She was not big at all. I don’t know what kind of doctor would perform this surgery on her.”

Friends knew that Lisa would have regular tweaks like Botox and other injectables and minor cosmetic procedures.

But they said they knew nothing about her bariatric surgery.

In the months leading up to her death, Lisa Marie was living a secluded life.

She was always a homebody, but became even more secluded following her beloved son Benjamin’s suicide in July 2020.

However, she did step out in public last year to promote Baz Luhrmann’s movie “Elvis” including one final appearance at the Golden Globes, two days before her death, where she looked extremely thin and had lost an obviously large amount of weight.

“She wanted to look her very best,” said the pal.
